HERE'S HOW YOU'LL GET THERE...

WELCOME TO PANT FITTING FOUNDATIONS

WELCOME

SET THE FOUNDATION TO MAKE FITTING EASIER

This module presents the opportunity to ease into the online course experience.
By the end of this module, you'll be ready to dive into the fitting process.
Highlights:
  • Learn how to successfully navigate through the course content and get your questions answered.
  • Gather the tools and supplies you'll need to complete the course.
  • Discover your personal fitting landscape and fitting grid.
  • Learn the parts of a pant pattern and the terminology used in the course.

STEP ONE

SIZING ANALYSIS

DETERMINE THE BEST PATTERN SIZE TO START WITH

Starting with the right size can reduce the number and complexity of the pattern alterations you need to make. I'll show you how to choose your size and how to break a tie if you have one.
By the end of this module, you'll be able to choose your best pattern size to start with (from any size chart) and begin planning your pattern fitting adjustments.
Highlights:
  • Take your body measurements and record them on the Pant Pattern Measurement Worksheet.
  • Use the Choose Your Size Worksheet to ensure you pick the best size to start with.
  • Determine your potential fitting adjustments based on your selected pattern size.

STEP TWO

PATTERN ANALYSIS

GET A CLEAR PICTURE OF THE DESIGNER'S FIT INTENT

Once you've chosen your ideal starting size I'll show you how to reveal the design and wearing ease intended by the pattern designer and how to use the information to get the intended look and silhouette on your body (and how to change it if you choose).
By the end of this module, you'll know exactly what you need to do to adjust the pattern to fit your body measurements and desired ease.
Highlights:
  • Prepare the Cordelia sewing pattern for analysis.
  • Measure the pattern and calculate the optimal ease.
  • Develop your fitting plan by outlining all the fitting changes you'll need to make to the pattern.

STEP THREE

INITIAL PATTERN ADJUSTMENTS

MAKE THE PATTERN ADJUSTMENTS VIRTUALLY EVERYONE NEEDS

Take what you learned from the pattern analysis process and begin your pattern alterations. Here's where you'll get a step-by-step walk through of the initial, length, contour, width and girth adjustments you'll need and the order they must be done.
By the end of this module, you'll have solved for the most commonly misdiagnosed fitting issues before you see your first sample.
Highlights:
  • Learn the best way to implement your fitting plan.
  • Perform the initial pattern adjustments you need on your pattern.
  • Check and refine your altered pattern for trouble free sewing.

STEP FOUR

SAMPLE ANALYSIS

PREPARE A FITTING SAMPLE AND ASSESS THE FIT

Once the pattern is adjusted, checked and refined you're ready to test the fit. This is a necessary step in the fitting process that refines the fit for your body's unique shape.
By the end of this module, you'll have a sample of your garment and know exactly how to assess the fit all on your own.
Highlights:
  • Cut, sew and prepare for your fitting assessment.
  • Take your fitting photos and see a "real life" example of how to assess fit using balance lines.
  • Learn how to alter a sample to test your fitting decisions and make the most of your first sample with added guidance from The Pant Fitting Guide.

STEP FIVE

PATTERN REFINEMENT

TRANSFER FITTING CHANGES TO THE PATTERN

Now it's time to take what you've learned from the sample assessment and further refine the fit of the pattern. Here's where we'll go through the final pattern alterations that you'll need for pants that truly fit. We'll focus on the fitting issues that will often show up at this stage and I'll share the best ways to solve them.
By the end of this module, you will have transferred all your fitting changes to the pattern and be ready for a final fitting. You'll also have learned how to solve for a multitude of fitting issues in some rather unconventional ways.
Highlights:
  • Learn how to transfer fitting changes from the sample to the pattern.
  • Learn new and unconventional ways of managing pattern shape.
  • Check, refine and finalize your pattern for fitting success.

STEP SIX

FITTING SUCCESS

CELEBRATE YOUR FITTING SUCCESS

Here we celebrate and share the results of all the skills and knowledge you've gained. I'll share my final Cordelia pant, you'll share yours.
By the end of this module, you'll realize that you've learned HOW TO FIT. The knowledge and skills you've gained have given you the ability to recognize, assess and solve your own fitting issues.
Highlights:
  •  You'll have a completed pant pattern that fits.
  • You'll have the confidence to approach any pant fitting project using the In-House Patterns Studio Fitting Essentials process.
  • You'll be ready to experiment with style variations on your pattern.

Here's What to Expect Inside Pant Fitting Foundations

THE PERFECT FITTING PROJECT IS INCLUDED

Inside Pant Fitting Foundations you get access to the perfect fitting project (and the perfect wardrobe staple), The Cordelia Pant. I've specifically designed the pattern for this course so that you can follow along with me as I demonstrate each of the steps in the fitting process.
As we move through all the lessons, you'll take the Cordelia sewing pattern from its standard size to your size following the framework that I've laid out for you.

The Cordelia PDF downloadable sewing pattern comes in two fit-friendly views. Each view has the same fit and leg profile. View A has no pockets for ease of fitting. You'll create View B with pockets after your fitting is complete.
The Cordelia pattern is available in two size groupings:
SIZES 2M - 14M
WAIST:           25 1/2" - 33" (65 - 84 cm)
HIP:                35 1/2" - 43" (90 - 109 cm)
THIGH:           20 1/4" - 25 1/2" (51.4 - 64.8 cm)
SIZES 12W - 24W [C CUP]
WAIST:           33" - 44" (84 - 112 cm)
HIP:                43" - 54" (107 - 137 cm)
THIGH:           23 1/4" - 30 3/4" (59 - 78 cm)
[You have access to both size ranges]
* If your measurements are within 2" (5 cm) of these measurements, this pattern is still the perfect project. I'll be showing you how to adjust this pattern to your personal body measurements.

HERE'S WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU ENROLL

QUESTIONS SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS ASK

BEFORE ENROLLING IN FITTING ESSENTIALS

◾️ You are an alumni member of the In-House Patterns Studio course "Fitting Essentials: How to Make Sewing Patterns Fit You" and can commit and be fully present for the course for the entire 8 week period and will strive to complete the course within those 8 weeks.

◾️ You consider yourself an intermediate to advanced sewer who can follow general sewing directions from a garment assembly guide sheet.

◾️ You enjoy online learning, are comfortable with pdf patterns/resources and can give full attention to pre-recorded video lessons and/or live session recordings as well as apply and execute the lessons based on your personal fitting needs.

◾️ You understand that this is not a one-to-one fitting course where you'll get an individual fit assessment from Alexandra but you will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance on your work by interacting with the community and the virtual live session trainings that are offered each week.

◾️ You're excited to share your personal pant fitting experience of the course with others by sharing images of your progress inside the community group. (Alexandra will be seeking your permission to share these progress images in later versions of the course content and marketing materials.)

If you can place a mental checkmark next to all of these points, you are a "perfect fit" for the Pant Fitting Foundations course.

If you hesitate on any of these points, please consider the course again at a later date. The next session is likely just around the corner and may be at a more suitable or convenient time for you.

In short, YES.

I have specifically designed this pattern in a way that will help you achieve the best possible fit using the principles and methods I teach inside the course. Without the special features that I've incorporated in the pattern, you will likely struggle more than you need to.

However, once you understand the methods and processes of making a pattern fit you as I show inside the course, you will definitely be able to apply the principles to other sewing patterns without these special features. Following along with the Cordelia sewing pattern will help you learn HOW to fit. Once you have internalized the process you can apply it to any pattern you choose.

That being said, I realize that the gender and sizing may not include everyone, so what I suggest is that you use this project as a learning tool and perhaps follow through with the course lessons while making the garment for a friend or family member. While this isn't the most optimal solution for learning how to "fit yourself" I know from experience that learning how to fit on another person is just as valuable and gives you even greater insight into assessing fit.

Pant Fitting Foundations is a very comprehensive course and I don't want you to be overwhelmed by all the content I have to share.

The course modules will be posted one or two per week for the first 6 weeks and I'll spend an additional 2 weeks with you inside the Pant Fitting Foundations Community group. I deliver it this way so I can walk you through each of the modules and provide help and guidance along the way.

That being said, once all the modules are delivered, you will have lifetime access to the course and be able to watch and re-watch the videos as many times as you like.

I've got a welcome message waiting for you inside that will tell you exactly what you'll need to do before the first module drops.

The Pant Fitting Foundations Community Group is an exclusive and private group for course members only. The group is housed on the In-House Patterns website and does not use any aspect of Facebook.

This community is where you will interact with your fellow coursemates. I encourage you to share your advice, questions, photos and insights about the course content with each other so that you can make the most of the knowledge and experience that will be represented there.

It is also the place where I will communicate with you and share the information about our Live weekly Q&A sessions. Each week I will allow you to post questions about the course so that I can clarify and guide you. I will do a LIVE Q&A Session twice a week for 8 weeks.

All Q&A sessions will be recorded so even if you can't attend live, you can still get your questions answered and benefit from all the information I'll share.

This course is going to show you HOW to fit, by yourself, from start to finish. It's the complete process I have used successfully to fit my own garments and one I've been developing over the last 10 years while working with experienced home sewists like you.

You'll learn how to analyze your figure, the sizing and the pattern itself so that you can replicate the style and silhouette of the pattern on your body. You'll then perform the initial pattern adjustments virtually everyone needs to align the pattern to your body measurements and proportions before you even make a sample. I'll show you how to check and refine your pattern so that you can stitch up a fitting sample quickly and easily.

I'll show you how to prepare your sample for a fitting session in a way that will make assessing the fit straightforward and do-able without the help of a fitting buddy. We'll discuss how to assess fit using balance lines so you don't have to rely solely on understanding the wrinkle language.

I'll also show you how to take your fitting changes back to your pattern and work through the potential fitting issues that you may encounter. This course will give you the confidence and skills to recognize, assess and solve your own fitting issues with a straightforward process you can use on any sewing project.

You'll find that the differences are profound.
