WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

"Alexandra's knowledge and experience makes the workshop so informative and helpful. She explains why specific things are done and gives alternatives for different situations. She is patient, slows down when necessary and answers questions as they come up. The lunch provided is great and the workspace is super with plenty of room to work. Watching the flat pattern construction for a three dimensional garment was helpful in learning how to use the bodice block to actually make a garment."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the focus of this workshop?

The focus of this workshop is to learn how to use your personal bodice block (for woven fabrics) to create your own designs. I'll walk you through the development of a classic style shirt pattern with a two piece collar, button placket, back yoke, and shirt sleeve with a cuff and placket. Variations on this style will be discussed and demonstrated so you can modify the style to your personal taste.

Do I need a personal bodice block to participate?

Yes. It's important that you have a basic bodice block and sleeve that fits you well if you want to design a shirt pattern that fits you. If you do not have one join me in my live workshop or online course and I'll show you how to create a made-to-measure bodice block. If you don't want to miss the opportunity to join this session of the workshop, I am happy to provide a standard size 8 block or half scale block for your use during the workshop.

Do I need previous pattern making experience?

This is an advanced beginner workshop, which means you are expected to have drafted your own personal bodice block and be an intermediate garment sewer who is comfortable doing a lot of  basic math, using a measuring tape, ruler and drafting pencil and have the ability to work neatly and precisely. If you are brand new to drafting and sewing, this workshop will feel too advanced for you so get a few well executed garments under your belt before you take this workshop.

Will we be sewing our shirt during the workshop?

No. This is a pattern making workshop and is intended to teach you how to use your basic block to create new styles. You will complete the pattern development for a shirt style that will be ready for you to cut and sew at home.

What is the class size?

The class will consist of 6 to 8 participants. This will ensure that everyone gets some individual attention, there is ample space to work and we cover the content in the allotted time. Since the class size is small these workshops fill very quickly so register early to secure your spot.
