BUILD, REFINE AND FIT A MADE TO MEASURE HIP LENGTH BODICE BLOCK
"I now have an understanding of the way our shape can determine fit and ways to alter a pattern to fit. However, it is the personal instruction that makes this workshop so special."
"Attending this workshop has given me CONFIDENCE! I have a pattern that works! Plus it was lovely feeling like part of a community of like minded women."
"I gained a better understanding of Alexandra's technique of pattern fitting and I am encouraged that the first muslin required very few alterations."
I now know that I am not crazy or untalented and that I actually can create a sloper. : )
The focus of this workshop is to build, refine and fit a hip length bodice block drafted to your personal body measurements. You'll learn professional drafting, pattern making and fitting techniques that will improve your understanding of how patterns work and why most commercial sewing patterns don't fit.
A bodice block is a pattern drafted to specific body measurements and made to fit a specific shape. It is the most basic form of all tops, dresses and jackets and can be used to create new and more elaborate styles through the process of pattern manipulation.
No. However, this is an advanced beginner workshop, which means you are expected to be an intermediate garment sewer who is comfortable doing a lot of basic math, using a measuring tape, ruler and drafting pencil and have the ability to work neatly and precisely. If you are brand new to sewing, this workshop will feel too advanced for you so get a few well executed garments under your belt before you take this workshop.
The answer to that is both yes and no. Due to the limited time of the workshop we will be focusing our time on the drafting and fitting of the bodice. After all, there is no benefit to drafting a sleeve for a bodice that doesn't fit well. However, the sleeve draft instructions are included within the workshop kit provided so you will be able to develop a corresponding sleeve once your bodice block is fit to perfection.
The class will consist of 6 to 8 participants. This will ensure that everyone gets some individual attention, there is ample space to work and we cover the content in the allotted time.
I'm so sorry, enrolment in this workshop is currently full. Enter your name and email address below to add your name to the waiting list. You'll be the first to know when a new workshop date is added!
