She holds a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, with a major in clothing and textiles, from the University of Saskatchewan (BScHEc, 1990) as well as a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Fashion Design from Ryerson University (BAA Fashion, 1995).

Here's What They Said...

"Best fitting workshop I have ever attended! Alexandra combines in-depth knowledge with exemplary problem-solving ability. She has a wonderfully calm demeanour and understands that people have different learning styles. She was never judgmental and was always ready to explain a problem/solution in a different way if a student didn't understand it the first time."

"I liked the delineation of the process - from measuring and recording body measurements, measuring the pattern then making adjustments to both pattern and muslin as needed. I also liked the hands on nature of the work - working on an actual project."

"I have greater clarity about the order in which I should tackle fitting a new pattern and am delighted to have Alexandra as a resource right here in Victoria. I am definitely a convert to making a muslin for every pattern."

"I learned the order of adjusting the pieces, the consequences of making an adjustment to one area - how it effects another, the relationship between parts, especially the sleeve."

"Excellent technical fitting course that provides hands on skill building. Alexandra really knows her stuff, and is able to share her knowledge without confusion."

FAQ

What is the focus of this workshop?

This workshop will focus on teaching you and guiding you through the process of fitting a garment. The goal is to provide you with strategies for recognizing, assessing, and solving your personal fit issues on a sewing pattern of your choice.

Do I need experience working with block patterns?

No. In this workshop you will work through the fitting process using a sewing pattern of your choice. You'll get the most satisfying results if you choose a simple pattern so that you can apply the techniques quickly and easily. Once you understand how the process works, you can move on to more complicated styles.

Will I end up with a pattern that will fit me?

That's the idea! I suggest you bring a tracing of simple sewing pattern to the workshop and work through the Fitting Fundamentals process in a step-by-step fashion along with me.

What is the class size?

The class will consist of 6 participants. This will ensure that everyone gets lots of personal attention with minimal waiting time between fittings, there is ample space to work, and we cover the content in the allotted time. This workshop fills very quickly so register early to secure your spot.

What Should I Bring?

Once you are registered for the workshop you will get access to an online mini course that will help you prepare your chosen pattern for the workshop and give you all the details about the workshop. Plan to bring a couple of sewing patterns to work on, all your sewing and pattern supplies as well as a portable sewing machine.
